CGS Level 1 Formation

Rooted in Faith, Grounded in Community.

What is Catechesis of the Good Sheperd?

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based approach to faith formation that helps children encounter God through Scripture, liturgy, prayer, and hands-on materials. Rooted in respect for the child and their natural relationship with God, CGS invites children into a prepared space of quiet wonder known as the atrium. CGS nurtures a child’s relationship with God through silence, beauty, and meaningful work.

Level 1 training prepares adults to serve children ages 3–6 in the atrium.

What is Level 1?

Level 1 focuses on the spiritual needs of children ages 3–6 and the essential themes of the Christian message. Participants will:
● Reflect deeply on Scripture and the life of Christ
● Learn the theology behind the CGS method
● Observe and practice presentations used in the atrium
● Create hands-on materials used by children
● Explore the role of the catechist as a prayerful guide
